Prime Minister Hun Manet announced that the government is preparing to apply for the registration of “Sangkranta” on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List soon, emphasizing that Sangkranta is not exclusive to any single country.
He made the remarks during the 27th National Cultural Day and a solidarity dinner with art performers on March 5, 2025.
The Prime Minister stated that the success of registering both tangible and intangible cultural heritage continues to be a source of national pride, enhancing Cambodia’s international image through the cultural arts sector.
Mr Hun Manet encouraged the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts to continue this important work and urged relevant ministries and institutions, especially the Ministry of Environment, to strengthen cooperation and initiate projects to register natural areas on both the UNESCO Natural Heritage List and the ASEAN Regional Mechanism List.
He commended the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts for its efforts in preparing intangible cultural heritage registrations.
“Just over a year since the establishment of the new government, we successfully had Koh Ker Temple listed as a World Heritage Site. We are now preparing to have Cambodian Sangkranta listed on UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage List as well. Please continue this work so the world knows what our ancestors worked hard to preserve,” he said.
