Senior Minister Ly Thuch, First Vice Chairman of the Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA), met with Ms. Buth Rothna, executive director of the ASEAN Regional Mine Action Centre (ARMAC), on January 27, 2025, at the CMAA headquarters to discuss partnership and cooperation in mine action.
During the meeting, Ms Buth Rothna congratulated the Royal Government of Cambodia, through the Cambodian Mine Action Authority, on the achievements in mine action in the past and thanked the CMAA for its continued support and cooperation with ARMAC. Ms. Rothna requested that the CMAA continue to support ARMAC’s efforts.
On behalf of Dr Hun Manet, Prime Minister and Chairman of the CMAA, Dr Ly Thuch recognised and appreciated the achievements of the ARMAC Centre over the past 8 years since its official establishment in 2016 under the initiative of Hun Sen, former Prime Minister, in 2012, while Cambodia was the Chair of ASEAN. Hun Sen’s initiative has been applauded and supported by all ASEAN Heads of State and Government.
At the same time, Thuch highly appreciated the role and duties of the ARMAC Centre, which serves as an essential mechanism in leading and coordinating the ASEAN region to work more closely between ASEAN member states in the field of mine action. In addition, Cambodia has also contributed to sharing mine action experiences for the region and the world through the ARMAC mechanism.
The Mine Action Authority will continue to be a strong partner in supporting the ARMAC Centre’s programmes so that ARMAC can continue to provide cooperation and partnership for the mine action sector regionally and globally.
The senior minister emphasised that with the achievements and building good relations with all relevant parties in the past, the mine action sector in Cambodia is currently recognised and highly appreciated by the head of the Royal Government of Cambodia and that the mine action sector has also been making an essential contribution to promoting and building international and foreign relations between Cambodia and various countries in the region and the world.
He informed ARMAC that the Mine Action Authority has set its priority plan for 2025, including mine clearance, mine risk reduction education, continuing dialogue with friendly and partner countries, sharing mine action experiences, and mobilising resources to support the mine action sector in Cambodia.
