Prime Minister inspects intervention in pumping water to people’s rice fields in Bati district

This morning, Prime Minister Hun Manet visited farmers in Bati district, Takeo province, who were pumping water for their rice fields through the Prek Thom canal. He inspected and monitored the water pumping through various canals to help save the rice crops of farmers in nine communes.

The dry-season rice fields in these nine communes cover a total area of over 4,000 hectares, benefitting approximately 3,587 families.

Authorities notified residents that due to the restoration of the upper canal, they could cultivate only over 2,000 hectares this dry season. However, residents have cultivated 4,000 hectares, resulting in a water shortage for rice cultivation that has led to calls for intervention.

After requests for intervention, the relevant authorities examined the possibility of extracting water to assist the farmers. Currently, water has been pumped into the canals, and farmers are drawing it into their rice fields to continue growing rice with joy.
