Peace from the perspective of ordinary Cambodians

A special celebration is planned for the 26th anniversary of the Peace Day in Cambodia on December 29. Cambodians are excited about the event, expressing their gratitude and love for the hard-earned peace in the country.

Mr Veung Vinh, a former Khmer Rouge Solider, a resident in O Choam Leu village, Kampong Lpov commune, Samlot district, Battambang province, said peace is priceless, and foundation for everything, and the absence of peace leads to separations, conflicts, and deaths.

“Only peace can unite families and society,” he said. He urged every Cambodian not to lose the peace to anything and to maintain it for future generations.

Ms Chan Pheap, a resident of Sangkat Prek Tasek, Khan Chroy Changvar, Phnom Penh, said that Cambodia has a long history of wars, and the most destructive one that she witnessed was the war waged by the Khmer Rouge. “The war did not only destroy all infrastructures but also claimed the lives of about three million people she added.

“Now Cambodians are enjoying complete peace and are entitled to the rights and freedom to travel everywhere,” she said. She emphasised that nothing is more valuable than a peaceful nation as Cambodia is now, and we together must protect this treasure.

Ms Chum Makara, who lives in Sangkat O’ Bek Kaam, Khan Sensok, Phnom Penh, expressed her gratitude to all Cambodian patriots who sacrificed their lives for Cambodia’s peace.

Mr Phann Phon, a resident of Koulen Mountain in Khnong Phnom commune, Svay Leu district, Siem Reap province acknowledged the Win-Win policy of Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen as a key driver for national unity, peace, and development in Cambodia.

Guided by a sub-decree of the Royal Government, Cambodia celebrates Peace Day in Cambodia on December 29 every year.

The celebration not only reminds every Cambodian of the pivotal role of peace but also commemorates the sacrifice of the country’s heroes, including the endeavour and leadership for the rollout of the Win-Win policy by Mr Hun Sen to secure complete peace for the nation. AKP
