Chea Serey, Governor of the National Bank of Cambodia (NBC), has sought the possibility of assigning technical experts from the People’s Bank of China (PBOC) to provide technical assistance to NBC officials, aiming to strengthen the institution’s capacity.
The request was made during a meeting between Chea Serey and a delegation from the Chinese Embassy in Cambodia, led by Zhong Jie, Commercial Counselor of the Embassy, at the National Bank of Cambodia on Friday.
The meeting aimed to discuss strategic activities and measures to further promote Cambodia-China cooperation in the banking and financial sectors.
During the meeting, the NBC Governor highlighted the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the National Bank of Cambodia, Alipay, and UnionPay International on ‘Cooperation on Cross-Border QR Code Payment.’
This initiative seeks to facilitate efficient and secure cross-border QR code payment transactions through KHQR, linking the Bakong system with the globally accepted QR codes of the two companies.
Chea Serey also proposed additional support for capacity building by increasing scholarships for Cambodian students and NBC officials pursuing bachelor’s and advanced degrees in China.
Furthermore, she suggested exploring the possibility of assigning technical experts from the PBOC to provide technical assistance to NBC officials, enhancing the bank’s institutional capacity.
