The Governor of Kampong Cham province, Un Chanda, attended the opening of a youth camp themed “Developing Youth Capabilities in the Cambodian Socio-Economic Context” on the evening of February 18, 2025, at Hun Sen Khchao High School in Kang Meas district.
On this occasion, the provincial governor remarked that youth camps are a crucial aspect of educational training, as they assist young individuals in developing their soft skills through opportunities to observe, reflect, enhance their morale, work both individually and in groups, make collective decisions, and cultivate a sense of responsibility within a spirit of friendship.
Additionally, youth camps serve to educate young people about geography, instil a genuine appreciation for nature, promote environmental protection, and provide supplementary knowledge and skills in line with the goals and objectives set by the camp programme organising committee.
Chanda noted that these camps are designed as training for demonstrating management skills through a self-management system, with the committee organising participants into groups and branches, assigning roles such as group president, vice president, and branch leader to guide and implement tasks.
The provincial governor further stated that this process is referred to as learning by doing; through this experiential learning, participants will develop a sense of ownership over their management responsibilities and acquire experience according to the programme established by the committee.
Consequently, camping is an activity that encourages and motivates young people to pursue education and training, enabling them to fully develop their personality—physically, mentally, morally, and skillfully—so that they can emerge as responsible citizens within the national community.
