ITC, Japanese think tank ink MoU for joint research in energy management


The Institute of Technology Cambodia (ITC) is all set to engage in joint research in the field of energy management and electricity with Centre for Research and Development Strategy Japan (CRDS).

This came as Kimtho Po, ITC Director-General received Prof Katsunori Hanamura of CRDS at the institute.

The discussions focused on joint research in the field of energy management and electricity, among other things.

CRDS, a think tank that functions under the Japan Science and Technology Agency, aims to provide navigation in science, technology and innovation.

Japan is currently providing a $55 million loan to implement a project to improve and modernise the power grid in Phnom Penh. A memorandum of understanding was signed between the representatives of both governments last year.

According to the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the objective of the power project is to enhance the stability of electrical supply in Phnom Penh, by providing new substations, transmission lines, distribution lines, and related facilities, and rehabilitating the existing substations, thereby contributing to sustainable economic growth in Cambodia.
