A 30-member delegation from the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP), led by Kha Leng, Member of the Central Committee and Secretary of State at the Ministry of Commerce, recently completed a research visit to China. Held from 22 to 30 December, the visit aimed to explore strategies to enhance Cambodia’s trade, investment, and agricultural sectors, the CPP announced yesterday.
The delegation’s agenda focussed on three key objectives: promoting value-added product processing, expanding agricultural exports to China, and understanding the role of institutions and authorities in fostering investment and trade. The visit also sought to gain insights into China’s state and party management practices at both local and national levels, contributing to the vision of building a high-quality, high-level, and high-standard Cambodia-China community with a shared future in the new era.
On December 3, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and President Xi Jinping held talks with the President of the CPP, Hun Sen, in Beijing. Both sides reaffirmed their highest commitment to a shared future. Cambodia considers this shared future to be in the common interests of both nations, expressing gratitude to China for its invaluable support in Cambodia’s political, economic, and social development over the years.
In Chongqing, the delegation met with key officials, including the Deputy Secretary of the Chongqing Party. The team examined advanced vehicle manufacturing processes, port operations along the Yangtze River, and an integrated transportation network connecting 12 provinces in central and western China to international trade routes. The visit provided valuable lessons on leveraging logistics for economic growth.
The delegation also met with officials in Tongnan district, a major hub for agricultural production, notably lemons and kale, which supply a significant portion of China’s market. This interaction offered insights into large-scale agricultural operations and export strategies.
Previously, in June 2024, Kha Leng attended the 2024 China (Chongqing)-ASEAN Electric Power Equipment Manufacturing Industry Conference on Innovation and Cooperation in Fuling district, Chongqing. On that occasion, Cambodia invited investors from various countries to seize business and investment opportunities in the Kingdom, aiming to foster better regional prosperity.
At the time, Leng highlighted Cambodia’s remarkable economic resilience despite the uncertainties of the global crisis.
In Yunnan province, the delegation engaged with leaders at Yunnan Minzu University and toured production chains for mushrooms, coffee, tea, and flowers, which are among China’s leading exports. The delegation also explored innovative approaches to community organisation and party development in a village transformed from a fishing community into a modern settlement.
Further activities in Yunnan included visits to party-building initiatives in commercial spaces and meetings with representatives from logistics and modern agriculture companies with investments in Cambodia.
