Cambodia commits to fair, transparent trade to provide access to ASEAN, global markets

Prime Minister Hun Manet said that Cambodia is committed to fair and transparent trade to provide preferential access to ASEAN markets as well as major global economic markets, including the European Union, the United States, China, Korea, and the United Arab Emirates.

Speaking at the opening of the ASEAN-Cambodia Business Summit 2025 under the theme “Accelerating ASEAN Connectivity: People, Infrastructure, and Trade” today, Premier Hun Manet said that as a member of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Cambodia has demonstrated a strong commitment to fair and transparent trade.

Cambodia is focussed on achieving a vibrant and integrated economic community through strong trade liberalisation and trade facilitation.

The premier stated that in close collaboration with ASEAN neighbours, Cambodia has been working diligently to remove and reduce trade barriers, streamline customs and business registration procedures, and establish a clear and transparent legal framework. Additionally, Cambodia is actively expanding market access through strategic free trade agreements (FTAs), ensuring preferential entry into the ASEAN market, as well as major global economies, including the European Union, the United States, China, South Korea, and the United Arab Emirates.

He continued that Cambodia has also been actively preparing for business summits like today’s event to provide valuable opportunities for collaboration. This dynamic approach underscores our focus on deepening regional ties and creating a more integrated and comprehensive business ecosystem. In Cambodia’s business landscape, we highly value the power of partnerships between the government and investors, both domestic and foreign. We prioritise open dialogue and foster a dynamic and responsive environment by regularly organising government-private sector forums to address key issues and concerns of the private sector.

“Last year Cambodia received 414 investment projects with an investment volume of approximately $6.9 billion, marking a 40% increase compared to the previous year. The success of our international trade further demonstrates the strength of our market and the effectiveness of our policies. In fact, international trade volume grew by over 18%, rising from $46.82 billion in 2023 to $54.74 billion in 2024,” the premier underscored. AKP
