Cambodian Senior Minister H.E. Chhay Sinarith met with Australian Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. Derek Yip on Oct. 1 to discuss enhanced cooperation in combating technology crimes.
Senior Minister Chhay Sinarith, who also serves as Chairman of the Secretariat of the Committee for Combating Technology Crimes (CCTC), hosted the Australian Ambassador for a courtesy call and working discussion.
During the meeting, Senior Minister Sinarith lauded the 70 years of longstanding cooperation between the two nations, acknowledging Australia’s crucial contribution to Cambodia’s peacebuilding efforts.
He provided Ambassador Yip with an update on the CCTC’s recent operations against cyber fraud, carried out in coordination with other Cambodian competent authorities.
The Senior Minister reiterated the Royal Government’s strong commitment to eliminating cybercrime, despite ongoing challenges related to border disputes. He emphasised that anti-cybercrime operations are being implemented regularly, underscoring the necessity of prosecuting key ringleaders and strengthening international cooperation in this critical area.
In his remarks, Ambassador Yip commended the Royal Government of Cambodia’s resolve and efforts in combating cybercrime, recognising it as a global challenge that has also affected Australian citizens.
The Ambassador affirmed Australia’s readiness to cooperate with Cambodia in fighting cybercrime, both through bilateral channels and within multilateral frameworks.
The officials further reviewed past collaborative efforts and exchanged views on current developments and future strategies for cooperation between the CCTC and the Australian Embassy in Phnom Penh.
