Cambodia aspires swimming medals at 2025 SEA Games in Thailand

Cambodia is poised to achieve success in the swimming competitions at the 33rd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games), which are scheduled to be hosted in Thailand from December 9 to December 20, 2025.

This optimism is articulated by Mr Hem Kiri, Secretary General of the Khmer Swimming Federation, who has indicated that the nation will send a team of highly qualified swimmers to participate in the event.

Although Cambodia has historically not secured any medals in swimming and diving at the SEA Games, Mr Kiri expressed confidence that the athletes will perform exceptionally well in the forthcoming competitions and bring home medals for the country.

Moreover, the Secretary General highlighted that Cambodian athletes, particularly those who have undergone training abroad, will represent the nation at the Games. Notably, Cambodian-French swimmer Mr Antoine De Lapparent and Cambodian-American swimmer Ms Lu-Si Minnich are expected to contribute to the team’s efforts significantly.

Mr Kiri added that Mr De Lapparent reached the finals in both the 50-meter and 100-meter backstroke events at the SEA Games 2023, which were hosted in Cambodia. Ms Minnich has showcased considerable potential in the sport.
