The Mekong Delta province of Vinh Long and Cambodia’s Banteay Meanchey province will bolster their cooperation under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on Thursday for the 2025–2029 period.
The document also aims to promote good neighbourliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, and long-term sustainability between the two countries.
It outlines key areas of collaboration, with a particular focus on agriculture, trade, and tourism services, aligned with existing agreements between the two governments. Both provinces have committed to creating favourable conditions for local enterprises to expand their operations and capitalise on economic potential through investment partnerships.
The agreement highlights educational cooperation, including knowledge exchange programmes for officials, women, youth, and students. Meanwhile, special attention will be given to promoting advanced scientific and technological applications in agriculture and providing children and adolescents with essential knowledge and skills.
At the signing ceremony, the Vinh Long Provincial People’s Committee Chairman, Lu Quang Ngoi, stressed that the MoU provides a basis for the two localities to implement cooperation programmes across various spheres effectively.
It also affirms joint efforts in bolstering exchange and collaboration to contribute to the development of each side and the Vietnam–Cambodia traditional friendship.
Meanwhile, Banteay Meanchey Governor Oum Reatrey said that the MoU will bring tangible benefits to the two provinces and continue enhancing their solidarity, good neighbourliness, traditional friendship, and long-term cooperation.
He highlighted the historical significance of the Vietnamese-Cambodian relationship, referencing the event on January 7, 1979, when the genocidal regime of the Khmer Rouge was ousted with the wholehearted support of Vietnam. VNA
